You are invited to participate in this research study which investigate teachers' and students' perceptions about some teaching practices that can motivate students. You will need to answer a questionnaire about your views. Your participation is voluntary and you are free to withdraw at any time and without giving a reason. Your participation will involve completing a questionnaire that will take approximately 10 minutes. Your responses will be confidential. If you are willing to participate in the follow up interviews, you can write your contact details at the end of the questionnaire. Thank you for your participation.In my classroom, a good EFL teacher should use these strategies to motivate students:
Q1:Show her/his enthusiasm for English teaching.
Q2:Establish good relationship with students.
Q3:Create a pleasant atmosphere in the classroom.
Q4:Offering ongoing feedback and concrete assistance.
Q5:Use small-group tasks where students can mix.
Q6:Try and promote interaction, cooperation instead of competition among learners.
Q7:Avoid any comparison of students to one another.
Q8:Invite senior students to share their positive learning experience with the class.
Q9:Have the students negotiate their individual goals and outline a common purpose and display the final outcome.
Q10:Relate the subject matter to the everyday experiences and backgrounds of students.
Q11:Make task content attractive by adapting it to students' interests or including creative, humorous and fantasy elements.
Q12:Include activities that lead to the compeletion of whole group tasks, such as project work
Q13:Help learners to accept the fact that they will make mistakes as part of the learning process.
Q14:Help students realize that it is mainly effort that is needed for success.
Q15:Promote learner autonomy and allow students choices about the learning process.
Q16:Teach students self-motivating strategies such as self-encouragement.
Q17:Notice and react to any positive contributions from students.
Q18:Make student progress tangible by encouraging the production of visual records and arranging regular events.
Q19:Offering rewards for participating in activities.
Q20:Encourage student self-assessment.
